SMITH II/MCU/LOC: QUANTICO/TEL: DSN 278.5193 COMM 703. 784.5193/EMAIL: [email protected]// GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Purpose. To announce the official name change of MarineNet to the Marine Corps eLearning Ecosystem (MCeLE). 2. Background. MarineNet has been the name for the centralized Learning Management System (LMS) portion of the Marine Corps Distance Learning Program (MCDLP) since Full Operational Capability in 2001. The system provides 24/7 access to self-paced and instructor-led courses, assessments and surveys, virtual learning environments, user-generated videos and material, and social communities. The MarineNet system satisfied requirements as an LMS until 2020. In 2020, coinciding with migration to Amazon Web Services GovCloud, MarineNet expanded beyond hosting Computer Based Training to providing a suite of learning technologies, authoring tools and resources for the sole purpose of instilling knowledge and developing skills for all learners within the eLearning setting across the Marine Corps Enterprise. 3. Discussion. In accordance with (IAW) references A and B, MarineNet is no longer an accurate representation of the capabilities provided by the overall system. The expanded role of the system in support of the Total Learning Architecture aligns with the definition and description of an eLearning Ecosystem IAW ref c. The name change will accurately reflect the expanded capabilities and assist with the re-branding of the program. 4. Decison. Effective immediately, MarineNet will be referred to as the Marine Corps eLearning Ecosystem or simply MCeLE. 5. The URL for the eLE will remain as portal.marinenet.usmc.mil until further notice. 6. Release authorized by Brigadier General M. W. Tracy, President, Marine Corps University.//
